Chicago IVF was the first provider of frozen eggs in the Midwest USA through partnership with My Egg Bank
My Egg Bank is a frozen egg bank and leader in cryogenic egg freezing. Itis the first multi-center network of fertility centers to offer the cryogenic egg vitrification process for frozen eggs. Chicago IVF has been partnering with My Egg Bank since the spring of 2013 to obtain frozen oocytes (eggs) for our patients in need of donor eggs.
The process of oocyte cryopreservation, or egg freezing, simply involves stimulating the ovaries for egg production by injecting hormones. When enough eggs are produced, they are harvested under anesthesia and cryogenically frozen to be used later.
A frozen egg donor bank offers patients a number of options for parenthood later in life. Many women know that a few years down the road, they may not be as fertile as they are now. Women become naturally less fertile as they age, and certain medications, such as chemotherapy, can cause fertility issues.
Often, younger or more fertile women will freeze and donate their eggs to a frozen egg donor bank and help women who need them. This is where Chicago IVF and My Egg Bank come in – we match donors and recipients so that even those with fertility issues can begin a happy family.
Though it is a rather new concept, egg freezing has proven to be quite productive: births from egg freezing have increased from 1,000 a few years ago to over 5,000 as of 2014. Technology continues to advance in order to improve success rates, and Chicago IVF facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art tools and staff.
Freezing eggs does not guarantee a future pregnancy as not all eggs survive or fertilize. However, there have been studies that show that over 80% of eggs survive, and about 70% of those eggs will fertilize successfully via intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection.
Frozen donor eggs provided through our partnership with My Egg Bank offer certain advantages over eggs from a fresh stimulated donor cycle. These advantages include a guaranteed number of eggs (six), instant information on the eggs/donor through pre-existing egg profiles, immediate transfer (e.g. no waiting on a donor's cycle), and, typically, a lower cost to the patient.
