Surrogates & Gestational Surrogacy Timeline

TIMELINE OF GESTATIONAL SURROGACY EVENTS

Month 1

  • Consult with Chicago IVF coordination team and enter into Gestational Carrier (GC) Program.
  • Work with the Chicago IVF team to learn and understand the legal, financial, insurance, and medical issues involved with gestational surrogacy.
  • Relax and educate yourselves about the surrogate process.

Month 2

  • Basic medical & psychological testing on Intended Parents begins.
  • Embryo Creation using your choice of Chicago IVF gestational surrogacy service.
    • One visit to Chicago approximately 15 days
    • IVF medication stimulation procedure
    • IVF egg retrieval procedure
    • IVF egg fertilization procedure
    • IVF embryo cryopreservation & genetic screening procedure
    • Frozen embryo transfer procedure at later date.

Months 2 to 3

  • Consult with Chicago IVF coordination team and enter into Gestational Carrier (GC) Program.
  • Work with the Chicago IVF team to learn and understand the legal, financial, insurance, and medical issues.
  • Relax and educate yourselves about the gestational surrogacy process.

Months 3

  • resentation of potential Gestational Surrogates.
  • Videoconferencing or in-person meetings with Gestational Surrogates.
  • Final selection of your Gestational Surrogate.
  • Comprehensive meeting of all parties: Intended Parents, Gestational Surrogates and coordinators.

Months 3 to 4

  • Selection of attorneys.
  • Drafting of Intended Parent/Gestational
  • Surrogate contract.
  • Introduction to insurance agents, review of any existing insurance policies, and basic under- standing of your individual insurance needs.
  • Medical testing of your Gestational Surrogate.
  • Finalize and sign the above contracts
  • Finalize and purchase the appropriate insurance policies

Months 5 to 10

  • Frozen embryo transfer procedure to Surrogate.
  • Pregnancy or retransfer embryos in one month.
  • Monthly home visits for wellness check of mom and baby.
  • Communication and meetings for all parties in person or online.
  • 20-week gestation: At this point we typically hold a joint meeting between the Intended Parents and the Gestational Surrogate.
  • 30-week gestation: At this point we typically hold a joint meeting between the Intended Parents and the Gestational Surrogate.

Months 16 to 17

  • Welcome to parenthood.
  • Final meeting/celebratory going-away party among all parties.
  • Legal documentations including birth order (may include United States passport as per regulatory requirements).
